Historic Racing at Pursuit Racing

The Pursuit Racing Team

The Pursuit team blends expertise across several fields, all critical to race success. Equally important is good inter-team chemistry, which is entirely emotional. No good race team can survive without this.

Fascinated by cars from my earliest days, I entered the world of historic racing through an apprenticeship at John Danby Racing: a highly regarded racing team. Working on a wide range of Appendix K cars in the workshop and on event instilled a deep appreciation of historic race car engineering, which I built on over later years at Lanzante.

Lanzante earned its deserved reputation for setting new standards in classic car racing and restoration. Working with the team extended my education into GT3 and LMP cars and showed me what was possible with the right attitude and approach. From Lanzante, I moved to pure circuit racing, joining Grasser Racing to run the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 in Blancpain GT. The high point was winning the 2017 Blancpain championship, beating all of the works-supported teams.

I combined my time at Grasser with a spell at Manor Motorsport, supporting the Oreca 05 and 07 LMP2 cars for a season, the highlight of which was seventh overall at the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans. I then returned to Lanzante for a couple of years, working on the TAG Porsche 930 and P1 GTR road car projects, before starting Pursuit Racing at the end of 2020.

Great preparation does not happen by accident: it is a systemic approach to problem solving and consistent attention to detail. Pursuit Racing consolidates all of my experience, taking best practice from the industry's most accomplished performers to deliver beautifully presented, high-performing and reliable racing cars. I remain obsessed by the world of historic motorsport and adore the cars I get to work on every day!

Having attended a motorsport college straight from school, I began a motorsport degree at Oxford Brookes University. A year in, I decided to switch back to more hands on learning and took a job with a British sport car specialist. The company had close ties to Lanzante. After four years, I ended up moving there, drawn by the emphasis on quality and attention to detail.

I worked with Lanzante for two-and-a-half years, meeting Oli along the way, until an opportunity came up with McLaren as a motorsport technician on the GT3 and GT4 race car development team. This took McLaren road cars and transformed them into endurance racers. A highlight included preparing and testing these cars with former F1 world champions, Mika Hakkinen and Jenson Button. I was at McLaren when Oli offered me the job at Pursuit. I jumped at the chance to work on such a wide variety of historic and modern race cars at such a high level.

Away from work, I'm a keen competitor in several branches of motorsport. A former junior trials rider, I race hill rallies in a competetion Land Rover. I have also raced Caterhams, and have competed on circuits across the UK and Europe.

When I left school in '87 I had less than a clue what I wanted to be, so while sat in a very boring careers lesson my best friend said he was going to be a Mechanic. "Awesome" I thought, "how hard could that be?" So that's what I did. After a rocky start at Austin Rover in Northampton I applied for a Mechanic job in Silverstone which I got the same day. Here I am around 35 years later after a successful career in many different classes: from National one-make championships and touring cars to Formula 1, winning championships across them all as a Mechanic, then moving on to management of teams.

My side hobby of building kit cars from scratch, as well as the rescue or restoring of just about anything with an engine and wheels, keeps me busy outside my day job too! Over my long and varied career I’ve picked up many skills which I can bring to Pursuit to hopefully help make our already beautiful cars better than ever.

I grew up in a family of petrol heads: from 911 to RS4. 458 to M4. And Turbo-S to F-Type, I was lucky enough to experience some pretty serious cars via family throughout my childhood and to this day. Even though I wasn't driving, it gave me a need for speed and I spent most of my late teens and early 20s begging for a driving experience for every birthday and Christmas! I've been lucky enough to take a spin around Silverstone a few times, including the Porsche track, which is awesome fun: spinning a Turbo S around the kick plate and ice hill!

Spending my whole life so far living in motorsport valley means it's inevitable that many friends and family work in the industry. I'm not the hands-on-mechanic-type and I fell into other industries early in my marketing career. I (incorrectly) didn't see motorsport as an industry for women, until I came across Pursuit. Following in the footsteps of previous women in my role here, I've slotted into the team and am finally exposed to the industry I've always loved through my work.

Everyone at Pursuit Racing puts their all into engineering the highest quality cars, creating the best client experience and generating awesome race results, and it's great to be part of that effort.

I grew up in a motorsport family; my dad owned a garage and raced in the Mini Miglia series, so I spent most of my weekends at the circuit. When I left school, I did a mechanical apprenticeship with my dad, also building my own cars and doing a little bit of racing in my spare time.

After six years, I decided to focus on the racing side and joined Elite Motorsport, running Ginettas in the GT4 Supercup, GT5 Challenge and Ginetta Junior series. Elite also had a Mini Challenge programme racing John Cooper Works Minis. I ended up running that and caught the attention of Beechdean Motorsport, the Aston Martin GT team.

Beechdean's owner had grown up racing Minis, so we just clicked. Working with another Mini enthusiast inspired me to dust off my own classic Mini and continue racing in the Mini7 championship, where I won the Novice Championship in 2019. I love working at Pursuit. Racing is in my blood and this team is devoted to the craft of building fast and reliable race cars!

The majority of my career has been spent in the Automotive sector for retail car dealerships and big brands like, Aston Martin, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and many others. Before entering the workforce, my love of all things cars was cemented by my family, who have a history in the trade. I vowed never to follow my Dad into the industry, yet here we are!

I competed in various VSCC events in my 1928 Austin 7 for a number of years, even managing to win some silverware, but these days I mainly race my road bike. I'm a two-time finisher of the 24 Hours Velo Le Mans - a very different "Le Mans" than we're used to here at Pursuit!

I relish the challenge of finding rare or unobtainable parts for cars. I am really impressed by the very high standard that everyone works to at Pursuit, ensuring that whenever a car goes out on track, every possible eventuality has been prepared for.

Like so many people that work in motorsport, I’ve lived and breathed it since I was young. I grew up around my dad’s race car and was able to be hands on and explore how things worked from a really young age. Seeing him race has made me want to get in the driver’s seat, which remains a major aspiration for the future.

While all my friends at school were pining after the latest Ferrari, historics have always piqued my interest. The cars of the past were, and always will be, more exciting! I’d heard of and followed Pursuit since they started up, so with a foundation degree in motorsport engineering and experience in many forms of single-seater racing under my belt, when a role came up on the Pursuit team, I made it my mission to get involved.

The thing I love most about working at Pursuit and in historic motorsport is the variety of cars we work on, and the autonomy and control we’re given over every aspect of how the car runs. We see the projects through from start to finish, and then all the way through the races too.

When I was growing up, my Dad had many American cars, and my Grandad and Uncle had Classic European ones. My Dad also owned a classic and American garage where I spent lots of time pretending to use a spanner as a kid! As I got older, I found my own love of motorsport: watching my Uncle race in 24-hour races, helping my Dad out with his cars and at his garage, and knew it was what I wanted to do.

I worked at two other renowned motorsport teams before joining Pursuit, getting to run lots of different classics including the Bizzarini. I had seen Pursuit trackside at racing weekends and following them on Instagram since they started up. I love being able to build a car and then see your work race around a circuit, see the driver being pleased with the results and working with the team to make sure the hard work pays off!

I've spent most of my career working in finance. From Finance Administrator in a small family-run business years ago, to Finance Manager just before a career break to raise my two gorgeous kids! After that break, the exciting opportunity arose here at Pursuit to take on the role of Finance Manager as the company grew.

I must admit, this is the first time I've worked in motorsport, however I can say that I'm thoroughly enjoying everything about my role and I think that's the first time in my career I've said that and truly meant it! I'm really enjoying learning more and more about historic motorsport and applying my financial knowledge to this industry and business.

The Pursuit team are brilliant; everyone is lovely and we all gel together as a team. It's nice to be part of a business that's professional where work executed to the highest standards while still being fun! We're growing as a business and it will be exciting to be part of that moving forward in the years to come.

Despite motorsport being a passion of mine for so many years now, I hadn't previously worked in the industry. My background is more in logistics, but I also run the Three Shires group for Ferrari Owners' Club alongside my boyfriend, which has given me the experience I needed to make the move over into the industry I love!

It's great fun being on-track, something I get to do a fair bit in my spare time and it's great to do it for Pursuit as well. This role fits me like a glove because it marries my organised nature with the backdrop of motorsport, which makes it that much more exciting.

Growing up, my family had a large collection of classic Minis in the garage that spanned the length of the house, and that was probably where my interest in classics began. Our 1963 Mk1 Austin Cooper named Jocie, who's as much part of my family as anyone else, was named for her number plate ending 'JOC' and has been passed down through generations in my family since she left the factory. She's now in my hands to keep running.

Having always been interested in Motorsport from a very early age, I knew that’s what I wanted to go into as a career. I studied at the National College for Motorsport in Silverstone for two years, alongside stints of work experience at Mercedes F1, and left with both Level 2 and 3 qualifications. After finishing there I went straight into work as a Junior Mechanic at a British GT Team before finding Pursuit Racing.

Every day is a school day for me and I love getting stuck into new cars all the time. Everyone at Pursuit is willing to share their knowledge and help me grow more as a technician. It will be great to keep pushing myself at Pursuit, supporting at races and contributing to the excellence in car preparation that everyone here works to.

I come from a petrol-head family through and through, and their love for classic cars has really rubbed off on me. As soon as I left school, I joined the Heritage Skills Academy in Bicester and am aiming to achieve a qualification as a Heritage Skills Technician. As part of the course, which I’m really enjoying being part of, I’m required to work in a garage or motorsport setting to support my studies. After 2 years I saw an open role at Pursuit Racing, having seen the team numerous times at circuits, and decided to apply.

I’ve worked on loads of cars from various eras as part of my course and independently, which has helped me hit the ground running at Pursuit! From pre-war Bentleys to modern Aston Martins, there’s always something new to learn every time to walk into the workshop, and it’s great to do that as part of the Pursuit team.
